The Emperor Cats Series - Gift from the Palace Museum
In Ming Dynasty, in the imperial palace, the most popular pets are the cats. According to a history compile in Wanli (《万历野获篇》), the cats got the emperor's favor can get a title, such as "xx supervisor". There was a cat house in the palace with 3-4 persons in charge of this organization, taking care of all the titled cats.
The cat is hand painted, and the pattern around the coaster plate is actually from the antique "Cloisonne Enamel Flower Pattern Bamboo Box" during the reign of Emperor Qianlong preserved at the Palace Museum.
